Early in his career, Jim Johnson identified a need to free up an organization’s time and money through better management of their wireless and telecom expenditures. What started as auditing companies’ wireless bills to determine ways to provide savings led to co-founding Mobile Solutions with his wife Kim in 2008, focusing on Mobile Expense Management. Over the past decade, Jim led Mobile Solutions to expand its suite of services, providing full lifecycle Managed Mobility Services including procurement of new mobile devices, staging and kitting to configure devices, Mobile Device Management/Unified Endpoint Management to secure devices, 24x7, in-house service desk, innovative mobility management platform, dedicated account management, and device reclamation services. With over 20 years of experience in mobility, Jim led the way in creating MAX, an innovative mobility management platform. Mobile Solutions since then has experienced 35% growth in revenue year-over-year, increased employee count by 37% year-over-year, and maintains a 95% customer retention rate.

Jim is a strong believer in the saying, “What defines us is how we rise after falling.” Mobile Solutions was like many tech-startups at the beginning, a small group of dedicated people who were looking to innovate in their field. By listening to customers and taking learnings from his experience in the industry, he saw an opportunity to provide significant hard and soft savings in mobility management. Jim saw his clients’ challenges as opportunities to grow and he learned through each and every one of his experiences, surrounding himself with strong executive coaches, including the Mobile Solutions Board of Directors and Vistage, the world’s leading business advisory and executive coaching organization.
The steadfast CEO takes a hands-on approach, working with each of the teams to provide pertinent feedback and coaching. He is a visionary, always looking to leverage technology to meet and exceed the clients’ needs. MAX provides clients a single portal and easy-to-use interface for all their mobility management needs. According to AOTMP, it’s not possible to optimize both hard and soft mobility costs without technology to effectively manage the mobile environment of plans, usage, and invoices all the while providing exceptional service to employees. MAX allows the clients to gain visibility with real-time data and analytics, enabling in-cycle optimizations, eliminate manual and inefficient processes with automation, curb high data users with custom alerts, and manage mobility in real time, like the rest of their business.
“For us, it’s about knowing the needs of our customers and using technology to provide solutions and make their jobs easier,” says Jim. “Technology changes the landscape, and the rate it is developing means we are able to provide turnkey solutions to our clients.” In an instance, one of the company’s clients was managing a complex mobile environment necessary to continue growing their bottom line. Their needs encompassed over 10,000 devices split between 77 sub-accounts handled by over 140 mobile administrators. This was further complicated by their geography of 107 locations and 1,000 cost centers. The company’s solutions simplified their management, empowering them to make in-cycle decisions that positively impact their bottom line. “By partnering with us, they have saved over $5M,” says Jim.
Mobile Solutions is excited for 2020, and has plans for tremendous growth which includes enhancing their Unified Endpoint Management offering through integrations that bring more visibility around security. They also are working towards launching a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) offering to assist the clients further. It is pertinent to mention that Jim consistently looks for ways to improve processes, and is always willing to accept feedback from his team. Jim sets the bar high every day, but he helps everyone cross the line together, that is what great leaders aim to accomplish.
